Well, today we did what's quickly becoming an Allord family tradition - Pumpkin Fest in Nekoosa. It may not sound very exciting, but it's a great day out of doors looking at obese pumpkins and enjoying limited gluttony (funnel cake, fried cheese curds, elephant ears, caramel apples, kettle corn... you name it) In our defense we only had the curds and an apple elephant ear, but they were great. Below are photos from today. Today, Maylie started saying, "jeees" (cheese) when we would get the camera out - it was so cute. The winning pumpkin this year was a State record at over 1100 pounds!! The highlight of the fest (at least for us) was the pumpkin drop. They raised a 993# pumpkin 100 feet in the air and with all the exuberance of the ball drop on New Year's Eve begin the countdown...

The result is a mini sonic boom sound followed by a horde of children running to grab a piece of the obliterated gourd. Not that any of them even consider eating the fruit - they just have to have a piece of the dead monster.
