Oi! what a day! It began by shoveling some beautiful, delicate, yet heavy snow from our driveway
- snow which continued to fall all day in the blustery, freezing air. The gusting winds made it feel more like late January today.
Yesterday, we got our travel dates and were thrilled to pieces. We leave on Nov. 27th AM and return on Dec.10th PM. After realizing this would mean missing 3 Sundays in a row (and being assured by the church leadership that this was not only OK, but that they were excited for us (like we had a doubt)), we started searching for airlines and plane fares thinking we would merely be comparing rates and times.
Hello! What are we - crazy?
The weekend after Thanksgiving is the busiest travel weekend of the year - not just a busy weekend - this is the big enchilada.
We found great fares on oversold flights ('Well, we can't guarantee you'll get on the plane, but I can lock you in at this rate just in case") and flights with seats not anywhere near each other. ("Love you honey, see you in Chicago - have fun with the baby")
Finally after exhausting ourselves, we landed a decent fare on a plane where we know we'll have seats - together!
Now, lest you think we're frazzled and ready to pull out our hair, here's the rainbow:
We don't know for certain, but we know that our first 3 days or so are in Beijing and then we fly to Guangzhou. In the case of our orphanage, the girls are typically brought by train from Zhanjiang, and people have usually gotten them that first day.We just may get Maylie on Dec. 1st - my (Doug's) birthday. What a day that could be! SUPER EXCITING!!
