Day 2 – Touring Beijing
Whew! Are we exhausted again? Guess it’s all just preparation to becoming parents again.
Today we saw the Forbidden City (where the Emperor’s lived during their reigns), Tiananmen Square, Mao’s mausoleum (the outside) and learned tons about the history of China.Later, we visited a jade factory and had a great "lazy-susan" family style lunch. I’m pretty sure it was authentic Chinese! Next, we headed to the Great Wall of China – wow! They should really call it The Amazing Wall of China… or better yet, the ‘really-hard-to-climb-and-yes-I’m-sure-this-will-keep-the-Mongols-out Wall of China"
We walked, hiked, climbed and said "no" to a hundred different people wanting to sell us anything they had. I’ve gotten a renewed appreciation for immigrants to the U.S. who come knowing very little to no English (including our "foreign" way of writing). It is very difficult to communicate with someone when you don’t know their language and cannot read their signs!
Tomorrow we fly to Guangzhou and in the afternoon (?) we should get our precious Maylie!

My parents just went on the same tour about a month ago. Yes, you are having authentic Chinese food. They said that "American" Chinese was much better. My stepdad found he was eating the head of a duck without knowing it. What memories!
