Day 4- It's Official!

Day 4 – Its official!
Today has been a fun, complex day for the expanded Allord family. Maylie slept GREAT last night. She went to bed around 7:45 PM, got up at 1:00 AM for a bottle, back to sleep at 1:30 AM and then slept until we woke her at 7:30 AM to begin our day.

Each day we will have breakfast at the hotel buffet (which is really good – different, but good). Today we gave Maylie some congee (think rice based oatmeal, but runny). I guess she’s used to it, but it won’t be making my list of favorites anytime in the near future. We also gave her a bit of french toast with honey and watermelon – both of which were very foreign tastes to her. I guess she’s not had many different foods yet.
When we met her yesterday we noticed she had 2 bottom teeth. She now also has one upper tooth, with 2 more steadily on the way. We know she’s teething, so she’s kinda cranky – pray for our patience and her comfort.
Today we had 3 "interviews". Two at the public affairs office and one at the Public Security Bureau (PSB). Basically they asked us basic info: name, age, income, do you promise not to abandon or abuse her? Are you satisfied with her as your daughter?
After the second interview they said, ‘ this child is now officially yours’
The final meeting was for Maylie’s visa/passport application. They took a family picture of us for this paperwork that is a riot. We just assumed it was a picture for their records – so we look like some weird Disneyland picture of 2 white zany faced people and a confused, but strikingly beautiful Chinese baby. Believe me, if I could scan it and post it I would – you might lose some bladder control.
At this final meeting Maylie also needed to have her photo taken for her passport. She had just fallen asleep when they called our name – so I can only imagine what that picture will look like.
After this, we went shopping a "Wal-Mart". Not really Wal-Mart, but what they consider a close approximation.
Yesterday we got her laughing, and today….. Well, we’re still all adjusting to each other and Maylie is a real trooper, but has also screamed and cried more today. Any time Rachel is out of sight, she loses it- BIG TIME. So much has changed for this precious little girl. We have found that she loves the TV. I just wish she could translate for us, we miss most of the jokes she laughs at.
Tonight we’ll go to a food court with English menus (yeah!!!) and then to Starbucks to celebrate my birthday. Tomorrow is an unplanned day – no meetings, and we’re looking forward to exploring Guangzhou a bit more. Keep praying for us!!!!
